Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Step aside Red Lobster you are no longer needed.

I dislike seafood. Well okay, I don’t dislike it completly but eh I’ll never choose it. Eww dirty ocean water and mercury, blech.

BUT, if you happen to show up at my house with a bucket of pre-cracked stone crabs and a remoulade sauce I will immediatly make you my best friend and we’ll be happy together forever. Or pan fried soft shelled crabs. I think that’s where it ends though.

I can give or take lobster, most fish creep me out and if I have to partake in the shrimp cleaning I won’t eat them. Yep, I’m finnicky about my gilled and crustateous friends. Plus, I have pretty fish pets and I don’t want to be hypocritical.

Needless to say Red Lobster isn’t ever on my list of acceptable restaurants. It upsets me because I would take someone out for their Cheddar Bay Biscuits. I have often contemplated just running through the restraunt and grabbing a basket from an unsuspecting waiter on his/her way to a table.

I bet I could do it. No? Fine. Your no fun. The closest Red Lobster is in Pottstown, I’m sorry but me assaulting RL’s waiters for a basket of goodness would not be the most horrendous thing that P-towns RL has ever seen. It comes with the town. Sorry Pottstownians, you know its true.

Drawing on the little bit of sanity I have, I decided to just make my own. The recipe isn’t really exact because I just kind of winged it. Do it to taste, you won’t be sorry.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 Cups Bisquick Mix (real Bisquick not the add water Pancake powder)
  • 2/3 Cup Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Cheddar Cheese (or a bit more or a lot more)
  • 1/4 Cup + 2 tbls Butter melted
  • Garlic Powder (to taste, I probably used 1/2 tbls
  • Old Bay Creole seasoning (I use Zatarains because I like the commercial) to taste, I like it so I probably used more than a tbls
  • Parsley Flakes

DIRECTIONS:

  • Mix biscuit mix, milk, cheese, 2tbls melted butter, Creole (Bay) seasoning, garlic powder in a bowl.
  • Drop spoonfulls of batter onto an ungreased cookie sheet
  • Melt 1/4 c butter, put in a tsp of garlic powder and Old Bay stir well
  • Spoon over each biscuit
  • Sprinkle with Parsley
  • Bake 425 for 8-10 minutes
  • Promptly hide from your husband

I say spoon over each biscuit but a basting brush would probably be much easier. Easy is for the weak. Yeah, I don’t really want to talk about those damn brushes again. Total lamesauce and I refuse another. I’m going to prove that they are the biggest waste ever.

  1. OMG these look so good! I swear the few times I’ve been to Red Lobster I’ve been full before my meal ever came because of those damn things!

  2. Exactly! They are the only thing RL has going for themselves and love them dearly! They were super tasty!

  3. I will have to make these for the July 4th lobsterfest!!!! ok ; it may actually be a lobsterlessfest; I have a confession to make; I don’t like lobster! I cook them for the Miller clan; but don’t ever eat them…a little too creepy lookin for me too. I think we should switch to gourmet burgers! Probably get push back from the rest of the fam; but I can make burgers for you and me!

    • I think that is a fab idea! Gourmet burgers can be sooo many different and awesome things too. OHH an old bay spiced burger on a cheddar biscuit bun, that might be a bit much but I’d bet its darned tasty!

      • OMG! we are making them…mini old bay burgers on cheddar biscuit buns!!!! Rachel; enter them into a contest!!!!!!!! I have read many recipes in my day; and I have an all burger cookbook; there is nothing in there like that! (maybe cause they would suck! just kidding) really give it a try. Love ya lots!
